Volunteer Opportunities

 

Kew Neighbourhood Learning Centre relies on the generosity of our community of volunteers to successfully deliver some of our programs.

Volunteers are integral to our organisation.  KNLC subscribes to the philosophy that communities grow when each play a part in acting as agents for change and growth.  Our volunteers are a vital resource and have a place at all levels of KNLC, whether it be as Board members, mentors or class leaders.  To apply for any of the roles below please fill in the following application form – Volunteer Application

 

We are currently looking for volunteers with skills in the following area:

Volunteer Art Therapy Facilitator

The Volunteer Art Facilitator will provide art instruction to students of varying ages, abilities, and skill levels, with a focus on individuals with mental health challenges, those who are socially isolated, and individuals with disabilities. This role involves developing inclusive and accessible lesson plans, guiding students through art projects, and fostering a creative and supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for art, a desire to share their skills, and the ability to inspire and engage students- would suit retired art teacher or student wanting to gain experience.

Volunteer Administration Role

We are seeking a volunteer to join the KNLC team as the friendly face at our front desk. This role is crucial in ensuring a welcoming environment for our students, clients, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service:
– Greet and assist clients and contractors as they arrive.
– Answer phones and respond to general email inquiries from prospective students.

Administrative Support:
– Perform general administrative tasks as needed.
– Handle EFTPOS payments from students.

Coordination:
– Direct clients and contractors to the appropriate areas within the centre.

Skills and Attributes:
– Friendly and helpful demeanor.
– Strong communication skills.
– Basic computer skills for email and administrative tasks.
– Reliable and punctual.

Time Commitment:
– Ability to commit to a regular weekly block of time:  2-3 hours per session (up to 5 hours)
– Thursday & Friday between 9am and 3pm –

Requirements:
– Working with Childrens Check
– Police Check

Support and Training:
You will receive full support and training from our current administrator to ensure you are comfortable and confident in your role.

Additional Information:
We are looking for coverage on a few days but are flexible and open to having several volunteers assist on separate days (one at a time).

Music Therapy Facilitator

KNLC is launching an innovative Music Therapy program designed to assist individuals with Acquired Brain Injuries (ABI), intellectual disability or mental illness in exploring their interests and developing skills through musical expression. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Music Therapy Facilitator to join our team on a volunteer basis. This role is ideal for a music therapy student looking to gain hands-on experience in a supportive and collaborative environment or someone who has recently retired and has Music Therapy experience.

Community Lunches Support Facilitator

The Community Lunches Volunteer Facilitator organises and oversees community lunch events to promote community engagement and encourage social interaction among individuals facing social isolation and distress.  For a position description please call 9853 3126 or email debcolosimo@kewnlc.org.au 

Volunteer Games Facilitator

Are you a fun-loving, energetic individual with a passion for bringing people together through games? Volunteer Walking Leader

Lead and facilitate group walks, plan safe routes, guide participants, ensure safety, promote a positive atmosphere, and support participant needs. Just In Time (JIT) Social Enterprise

Do you have a passion for gardening?

Would you like to join our enthusiastic team mentoring and guide young adults with a disability to develop skills and confidence and be work ready?

KNLC is reaching out seeking volunteers for our newly established Social Enterprise gardening and maintenance group.

If you can spare 8 hours per fortnight, love engaging with people and the outdoors and would like to be part of making a difference and social change we would love to hear from you.
